Celtic Books, or the lack thereof…

I’m sitting here browsing through amazon’s offerings in Celtic history and spirituality, and I am appalled at the lack of good scholarly works. Many of the books that I have here at my house are now out of print, out of stock, or on back-order. The vast majority of the ones that are available are New Age crap… totally and completely useless to anyone who is serious about learning more. What is even more appalling are the high ratings by readers of books that are blatantly New Age crap, like those published by Llewellyn and other such places. I can’t believe people will still read and buy those books, but I suppose they don’t know any better… and judging by the lack of good material here, what real choice do they have?

I think Peter Berresford Ellis needs to get busy writing and put out some new books. Either that or get the publishers to re-release his old ones in either reprints or updated versions. There are pages and pages of out-of-print books listed at amazon… I’m surprised someone hasn’t made an effort to get some of these back on the shelves, there’s a fortune to be made if only they were available.

I also feel somewhat disappointed that the work of so many scholarly writers over all these years hasn’t put these snake oil salesmen out of business already. There’s a big market for Celtic books, but the only ones taking advantage of it are the crap peddlers. :/

Disturbing…
