HyperDictionary
Áine on November 30th, 2003 filed in GeneralI’ve just added a nifty little feature to this blog. If you’ll look over to the right in the sidebar, scroll to Explore, you’ll find a HyperDictionary form where you can look up the meanings of words. Now, this in itself is no major feat, but the results are simply awesome. After you click Look Up, you will get a popup window with the definition of the word you wanted to look up (you need to accept the cookie for this to work.) But the neat thing is, each word in the resulting definition is also hyperlinked to another entry in the HyperDictionary. Yes, each word is a hyperlink. Kewl, eh?
I’ve also taken the time to clean up the script by removing the table tags and other extraneous formatting which isn’t necessary with styles already defined in the external stylesheet, making it W3C-compliant for XHTML 1.0, so my page still validates.
*Edit : I’ve uploaded the cleaned-up version. You can get it from the comments to this entry, there’s a link there.

Yes, I think so too. Not sure if *all* the words are in that dictionary, but quite a few are. If you like, I could send you my cleaned up code. I’ve got mine in the Search block of the sidebar, so it’s getting formatted like the other search, but it’s free of formatting. I saved it in a text file. Do you want it?

Download the file. You can also save it easily by right-clicking and choosing Save Target As in Mozilla.
