Gemini : Week of January 8, 2004 : Freewill Astrology

I believe you should draw your inspiration this week from the British graffiti artist Bansky. He bought an unremarkable landscape painting at a flea market and glued a police “Do Not Cross” tape onto it. Then, disguised as a shuffling old man, he smuggled it into London’s prestigious Tate Museum and managed to hang it on a wall, where for a while it was regarded as a legitimate work of art by visitors and staff alike. Is there some place in your life that needs a comparable touch of prankish levity, Gemini? Any overly dignified or formal environment that could use the healing touch of a gentle lampoon?

I’m still thinking about it. There’s so *many* places in my life that are definitely lampoon material. *grins* I bet my friends can think of a few, too.

I went to see one of Banksys exhibitions in Bristol, at the entrance he had spray painted a mock trap door warning box on the concrete floor. It was interesting to watch the way various visitors handled it. The majority avoided standing on it completely, whilst some did not realise what they were standing on, until it was pointed out, then they leapt with dire panic away from the impending doom, only to realise after what they had. This is art with a true power. Very funny to watch.

Sounds like something I’d like to have done… and then sit back with a cup of coffee and a camera, waiting for the unsuspecting. ;)
