Working Away at the End of the Day
Áine on January 13th, 2004 filed in GeneralNot doing too much blogging this week because I’m working on the new domain (among other things), which will focus on web design, web standards, CSS, and related topics. Hoping to archive some stylesheets and templates for MT for people to use and modify to suit their own needs, as well as some basic tutorials and links to sites that offer these, so if you’re a like-minded designing individual (or you don’t want to mess with customization, but want someone to do it for you and you’re willing to donate via paypal or buy wishlist items), this should be of interest to you. I’m hoping this will evolve into some sort of group project (you’ll collect your own donations), but even if it doesn’t, it should prove to be a fertile learning ground for me for at least the next three years.
I won’t be using MT to post code because it tends to execute that code, and if you try to use textarea, it becomes a real mess and more hassle than it’s worth. Instead, I’ll be using a CMS (the latest version of Xoops) for the main content areas, which will give me links management, forums, and other goodies. We can post MT code inside the forums, which won’t execute that code, and it will be easier for people to copy and paste the appropriate code into their MT stylesheets and templates. I’ve also got this mental list of tutorials that really need to be written, a long To Do list, and a bunch of other, related ideas.
I won’t be hosting blogs or doing MT installations for payment of any kind. For one thing, I don’t want that kind of work, and it’s too much of a hassle for me to deal with, and for another thing, if a person can’t install MT, they can pay the folks at MovableType a reasonable fee to do it for them (or use TypePad). The new domain will focus on what to do AFTER you get MT installed and running properly, as well as many ways you can use the program to display different kinds of content online.
Back to work…

very nice looking forward to it ! BTW I can’t get into IRC I keep getting this error:
Using server entry wyldryde, generic network entry
*** Error 10060 (Connection timed out)

Hmmm, never encountered that one before, but it probably means it was taking too long to connect. Either that or some router between UAE and the US was on the fritz, keeping you from connecting. Hard to tell. Frustrating how those error numbers don’t really give you much information about it either.
