The Bloggies : Go Vote!

Áine on January 19th, 2004 filed in Blog On

The polls are open at The Bloggies. This blog wasn’t nominated, but much to my surprise, two of my favorite sites are on the ballot : BlogShares and the Agonist. I’ve cast my votes, go cast yours too!

    Hey check this out:

    User Slashdot

I found it documented on the home page of the guy who invented Slashdot, so I guess it’s not a bug (or not one they are planning to fix).

Might be a way for me to make my blog more interactive without actually having to do any work.

    Yeah, I like that!

I’m not sure what you were referring to. Isn’t that the journal page that /. gives to all registered users? I used to use mine, but now I’ve forgotten my password again, and haven’t been frequenting the site (mainly because of long load times and my own inability to figure out all the navigation schemes there). I did okay with it for a while, but if you don’t use it every week, you quickly forget how to get around in there. Or, I did, anyway.

Well, not quite, but I suspect that a lot of common code is involved. The link I posted above didn’t actually create an entry in my Journal, it seems to have gone into the database just as if it were a front page article. Try this link… I don’t even think you have to be signed on to use it. It shows a summary of recent articles (both front page and otherwise) but also allows you to create a new entry. Apparently it is one of several undocumented features. I didn’t get a straight anwer as to if this is a new feature in the works, a bug, or what. Since Slashdot is a commercial entity now, owned by OSDN, VA computing, etc. It occurs to me that they might be trying to open it up to other types of use (blogging for example). Maybe this is a “run it up the flagpole” sort of effort.
