Making Progress

Áine on January 28th, 2004 filed in BlogShares

The work at BlogShares is progressing daily. Several major bugs with folders were corrected and players should be able to see all of their stocks now; the coders are still doing some testing and tweaks on the database and the various scripts that query it. I’m in the process of correcting stock share discrepancies caused by transaction collisions from two or more players. Finished the Top200 stocks last night, with the exception of about a half dozen stocks that are a bit more complicated to sort out (excess amount of stock owned, market sell orders, etc.). Got the mergers and alternate URLs caught up to date, too. The indexing spiders continue to be a heavy load on the server (they’re working on it), Idea Production didn’t go off as planned (that’s been repaired to produce once per 24 hours), plus there have been some major connectivity problems over the past 48 hours due to a router malfunctioning upstream of the BlogShares server in San Jose, CA, making connectivity intermittently lousy for both players and tech support. Hopefully, that problem will go away soon, if it hasn’t already.

I know there are quite a few people that are getting impatient for improvements on the site Aine, but I for one am being patient and looking forward to the new improvements that are coming up. I think that some people don’t appreciate the amount of work that people like yourself, “C”, Subwolf and Jay (and no doubt several others) are putting into it in your own time, and I really appreciate that.

I wouldn’t have either the time or the skills to do what’s being done on our behalf. I can only say thanks for all the hard work ;o)

Now, how do I stop losing billions on half-arsed share dealing in PersianBlog eh? Mars/Iris is making a killing on there at my expense!

*grins* Not much you can do, he can outspend you and probably out-artefact you. If he’s actively playing the stock, wait for him to sell some and buy. You’ll profit doing that. Otherwise, go hunting for other stocks, there are quite a few big ones that are almost unheard of… check the index. :)

Yeah like Rutty said loads of people are getting quite impatient I’m kinda bored a bit of blogshares the game although I’m not that high up in worth and few days ago heard a mention about making the game tougher on #blogshares can’t wait for that. After everything is optimized I am hoping there will be some new gameplay !

I’m struggling enough at the moment thanks! I bought all of the relevant artifacts now - I was missing 5 relevant ones - and I’ve made some cash from it (about 6 billion over 24 hours) though I almost managed to cock it up by over-hyping the stock and it crashed before I could sell it!

I’ve still got some strategies to work on. I’m trying to manipulate the Life industry upwards in value, and have failed to get it over 20k - I’d like it up to 50k, so we’ll see how I do. I know it’s a case of requesting indexing of the right blogs, but I haven’t found the right combination just yet.

MLT has come up with some interesting comments, as have a few others. I know MLT goes on a bit, and there’s a lot of history there with some of the older members that I’m not too familiar with, but I think what he’s saying has merit. Too many words for me though!

Well done so far though. I’ll be sticking around for a while yet ;o)
