The links didn’t open, but probably is a connection problem. What’s the meaning of this cemetery to US? If it has a special meaning of course…

Arlington is my country’s official national cemetery. We have several, but Arlington is the primary one where soldiers, sailors, astronauts, and explorers are buried. Veterans from every one of our wars are buried here, including the Revolutionary War and Civil War. The space shuttles Columbia and Challenger astronauts are buried here, and so are some of the test pilots from our air services.
This photo is just one -small- part of Arlington National Cemetery. The original part of the cemetery is over 1,100 acres in size, but I think over the years it’s been added to/expanded. I’ve visited Arlington and I can tell you that the experience of going there was, for me, a life-changing experience.
Afonso, I don’t think the U.S. of your youth, the way you saw it, was that far off the mark of the way most Americans see their own country. It is for that vision and those ideals that some of us join the military or VISTA or other service programs. So often, though, our citizens don’t even realize what our government is doing in terms of atrocities in other countries. The media is partly responsible for that skewed vision, but ultimately, it is the responsibility of the citizenry to keep themselves informed about what their government is doing. All Americans are not close-minded hateful people who think only of themselves and are greedy, but I know that that is the impression other people from other countries often have of us. For the most part, we often feel helpless to be able to effect change in our government, but speaking out about the wrongs is one way of doing that. Those who remain silent and unaware have only themselves to blame.
@ Lily : Yes, it is sad. It is even more profoundly sad when you are actually there and walking among the stones. When you see the size of this place and realize the significance of the sacrifice that has been made, and continues to be made… every citizen of the U.S. should go there at least once in their lifetime.

Seems like a nice place to rest. Contrary to some people I like cemeteries. Are wonderful places to think about life…

This situation is very hard! But very comprehending, but these younger guys that arn’t brave enough to go to the Army, Military, or Navy is rediculous they should send juvenile delincuits out to one of those excelerating life time experience. They are just no use for people like that around here when were supporting our troops and others are like thats not so bad blah blah blah people are wrong about stuff like that. Its hard to gt in one of those, but your learning something as you go along. Its a great thing to do for your country get bad influences off the streets. The Government or President should pass a law on this like, a Law Enforcement kind of typ of deal well, situation. I thank our troops for being the bravest of all and sticking up for the people who are too cowardly not to be man or womanly enough to stand up and fight for a country like this. We need you to have people follow your footsteps to a better person and a better place and everything. So God Bless the U.S.A Thank you brave almighty’s!!!!

Michelle: You’d really want juvenile delinquents serving in the military, given weapons and very little supervision, to represent our country overseas?
Did you serve?
