I have to admit to having mixed feelings about this Wired article which reports that some major black hat hackers are planning on attacking the websites of several prominent Republicans/Republican-supporters, as well as e-mail, faxes and phones, and unspecified “financial disruption.” On the one hand, I kind of enjoyed it when the RIAA’s site was repeatedly taken down. On the other hand, this will just fuel the right wing’s attack on internet freedom, and they will use stuff like this to bolster their calls for greater surveillance of American citizens… in the name of “national security.”
