Voting Info : Michigan

vote.pngNot sure where to vote? Don’t know what’s going to be on your ballot? If you are a Michigan resident, you can check everything out here. That link will tell Michigan residents where to go to vote, as well as show them what is going to be on their local ballot. Ballots will have various “proposals” which will require your “yes” or “no” vote. It is up to you to figure out what the proposals are and which way you want to vote on them. The Publius site shows Michigan residents the ballot proposals’ wording on each ballot initiative. I recommend printing out the ballot that Publius shows you so that you can look it over, do some online research on the various measures or on candidates, and mark that print-out with your choices, and then you can take that with you into the voting booth. That way, you won’t be confronted with a bunch of things to vote on that you know nothing about.

If you have any problem voting on election day, no matter what your state of residence is, call 1-866-OUR-VOTE to report your problem immediately. If there is a problem with your voter registration, you *may* be able to vote on a provisional ballot (depending on your state regulations), which will be counted once it is determined that you are entitled to vote or that your registration is actually valid.

Most states require voters to vote in their proper precincts in order to have their votes counted. Your precinct may have changed since you last voted, so you need to find out where to go to vote before election day. Some states also allow early voting, your state may be one of these (Michigan isn’t). Please check with your Secretary of State’s online site or your local political party website for accurate information. You might also check The League of Women Voters DemocracyNet site for more information.
