“Nobody, not even Amnesty, is saying that the U.S. is doing things equally bad as say, our pal Karimov. Cons just can’t take it when anybody anywhere points out that some bad things are going on. It doesn’t conform to their programming. They have to clutch their dogmatic perceptions in a white-knuckled death grip, and screech “HERESY!” at anything contradictory.” - B1 Bummer @ Eschaton

“‘Moral’ argument means reminding people that Jeebus (et al.) wanted them to take care of the poor and the elderly. As far as I can tell, all of the major religions have much more to say about charity and good works than about smiting. Buddha even recommended quitting any job that didn’t embody good principles. Jeebus didn’t mention gays or blastocysts at all.” - Sisi @ Eschaton

“For me being a progressive is the same as trying to be ethical and moral. To have concern for others’ suffering, to see that I don’t need to have a thousand times more than someone else, to try to have a world where my freedoms are guaranteed but not at the expense of similar freedoms for others and vice versa.

“The conservative ideas of morals are very narrow and focus on sex and on maintaining existing societal hierarchies. The idea is that if the person who carries the weight at the bottom of the pyramid walks away, that is selfish and wrong because the pyramid will collapse. But it is the pyramid itself that is selfish and wrong, and the people on top should get off or at least take turns supporting the pyramid.” - Mach2buster @ Eschaton

“To be honest, we have to stop demonizing each other in order to communicate. We have to accept that, in fact, most Republicans are not evil scumsucking, rotted, soulless, zombies. We need to speak in civil and measured tones without resorting to name calling and impassioned speech. I truly do believe that - but . . .

“while here on this board - or any other liberal, enlightened place - call ‘em as you see ‘em!

“Republicans = Asshats” - myrna minkoff @ Eschaton

From corrente, this gives me hope:

“Know what I saw today at the store parking lot? A guy in a cowboy hat peeling off a W’04 sticker from his truck. I had to ask, figuring he was just tired of it or something. And by the Tits of Meshe, he said, “Wish I’d never voted for the lying motherfucker.”

“I just nodded. If only more begin feeling this way, we got a real chance in ‘06, me hearties. Our local party is stronger than ever. Twenty new registered since we held our local chair election.” - by RDF

    This was inspiring:

I hope to hear about this happening alot more.

If they’d quit listening to Rush, Hannity, DeLay, Frist, etc., and get off their asses and investigate for themselves, they’d soon find out just how much they’ve been lied to by their so-called allies. The reality of job losses is beginning to seep into the white collar sector now, so maybe a few people will wake up and realize they aren’t as economically “safe” as they thought. Truth is, no one is safe anymore, and I don’t think serving in Iraq is what most people have in mind when they think of “job opportunities.”
