D’ja Learn Anything?
Áine on July 26th, 2005 filed in Blog OnA few things blogging has taught me:
* The world is both huge and at the same time very small, especially when people are grieving.
* The mainstream media (MSM) ignores 90% of the stories that are real news, and they still think we don’t notice.
* Good blogging and web design are ‘hard work’, seldom profitable, and quite often unseen.
* It’s more fun to blog if your readers are commenting, though that isn’t a reason to blog.
* There’s a lot of techie geniuses out there in the blogosphere who are both under-employed and under-paid.
* There are more cool scripts and widgets for blogs out there than I have sidebar space or server speed/bandwidth to try out.
* Most of my friends are bloggers in one way or another.
* If you click on the ads of a blog, you really are helping that blogger out.
* Always make regular backups of your blog’s data, templates, and stylesheet.
* Comment, trackback, and referral spam come from a handful of people who, imho, deserve to sit in prison.
* It’s often best to wait a few weeks before upgrading to the next blog software version.
* When I have lots to blog about, I seldom have time to blog… and vice versa.
* Many of the world’s prolific bloggers suffer from insomnia (or they’re just naturally nocturnal).
* Some blogs truly aren’t worth your time. This may be one of them. It doesn’t bother me if it is.
* A blog’s commenting section is not a free speech zone, it’s the blogger’s property and you are a guest of the blogger.
* Do a favor for a blogger, chances are, the favor will one day be returned to you — sometimes anonymously.
* People notice when you haven’t been blogging, but they won’t always say anything to you about it.
* Most bloggers have more readers than they imagine.
* Some Senators and Congressmen really do read blogs. Some of them are actually bloggers, others are only going through the motions.
* Blog developers are real people, just like you or me. Some of them are even approachable and friendly-like.
* All servers are not created equal. Shop around.
* Some things are better left unsaid. The person you didn’t want to see it, saw it.
* Very few people are born writers. If you want to be a good writer, you have to keep writing.
What has blogging taught you?
