Protests in Crawford
Áine on August 6th, 2005 filed in PoliticsCindy Sheehan and supporting organizations are currently staging a protest in front of the Bush ranch in Crawford, Texas. The wire services are beginning to cover it, it’s hit all the major networks, and the Lonestar Iconoclast is on the scene. The stories are just coming over the wires about how the mother of a soldier who died in Iraq was forced to walk in a ditch in the Texas heat (where there may be rattlesnakes) in order to get closer to the ranch. For a time, the sheriff’s dept. also would not allow water to be brought to the protestors, but that only lasted a short time. Bush refuses to come out and speak to Sheehan, but he sent out a couple of aides, one of whom is the one responsible for the 16 words in the 2003 State of the Union address about the phoney Nigerian uranium story. Talk about adding insult to injury!
Supporters include members of Veterans for Peace, Gold Star Families for Peace, Iraq Veterans Against War, Vietnam Veterans Against War, CodePink Austin, and the Crawford Peace House.
