Censure President Bush
Áine on March 16th, 2006 filed in PoliticsOn Monday, Senator Russ Feingold introduced a resolution to censure President Bush for breaking the law by illegally wiretapping American citizens.
Right now it’s unclear how many of Senator Feingold’s colleagues will stand with him (including our elected Democrats). They seem to be reluctant to support any measures that seek to hold Mr. Bush accountable for his actions, possibly fearing that by supporting censure, they will lose their seats in Congress in November.
There is a scientifically valid poll at the American Research Group showing that a plurality of Americans support censure, and your elected officials need to know that you support censuring the president for breaking the law. When the president misleads the public and the Congress and willfully and repeatedly breaks the law, there need to be some consequences — that’s how the law works for everybody else.
Congress must censure President Bush for breaking the law to wiretap American citizens without a warrant. Censuring the president is a reasonable first step in condemning the president’s actions. Now it’s up to all of us to show broad public support for Senator Feingold’s resolution. Can you sign this petition asking Congress to join the call for censure?
Thanks! A copy of the petition with 350,000+ signatures will be sent to your senators to show support for Senator Feingold’s resolution.
