My Blog Spammer Has A Shoe Fetish
Áine on January 30th, 2007 filed in Blog On, WordPressOne guy (or his bot, really) is apparently soooo interested in shoes that he’s spamming a single domain URL (pointing to various pages about shoes) over and over again… but that domain doesn’t actually exist, according to Google. So I have no idea what the point really is. Trying to take down my server? Not likely the way he’s going about it. BTW, most gay people I know wouldn’t be caught dead in Gay Rainbow Shoes, they have better fashion sense than that! *shudder* Nice try, dipshits, but no cigar.
I also noticed the apparent cluelessness about these bots and the spammers using them. For one thing, most of the spam URLs are in BBcode, and since I don’t have a plugin to allow BBcode on any of my blogs, it makes for a nice way to block their spam attempts without even having to fill my Blacklist with any of their fake URLs. In Wordpress, you just add the BBcode tag(s) into Options/Discussion (in the bottom list). Wham! That crap is not hitting my blog.
Meanwhile, all the open proxy IPs being used (Hello RIPE.net!) are getting blacklisted, preventing his spammy friends, who are also using those IPs, from posting their crap as well.
Also, I really think the FBI should go after the pharmaceutical giants, because you know darn well, they’re the ones behind all the pill-pushing spam. Somebody really needs to figure out a way to make this spam catching profitable for the bloggers… maybe we need to hook paypal into our spam filters and charge the makers of all these drugs a dollar a shot for every attempt to post their unpaid ads on our blogs, whether they’re successful or not? By the looks of my stats, this year’s income from spam would already be quite a boon.
