Mike Davidson, the CEO of Seattle-based online start-up Newsvine, has been getting international media attention this week for the prank he pulled on U.S. Sen. John McCain’s Web site. In case you missed it, Davidson made it appear as if the presidential candidate was changing his position to endorse gay marriage — “particularly marriage between passionate females.”

For more details, see P-I reporter Gregory Roberts’ story earlier this week, and Davidson’s original post. In short, the McCain campaign was committing a no-no by pulling an image for his MySpace page directly from Davidson’s server. Davidson replaced the file with the phony message, which then appeared on the McCain site.

At any rate, the media attention reached a peak last night when the McCain incident was mentioned during a segment on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” Davidson has the clip on his blog, and he can’t help but swear with excitement.
