Matthew Dowd, Republican Strategist : Kerry Was Right

clipmarks on March 31st, 2007 filed in Politics

Kerry was right about a lot of things, and it’s too bad that all the machinations of Rove and Dowd and their ilk kept people from seeing that, and the DLC paid consultants did Kerry no favors. But, perhaps people will begin to realize just how right Kerry was about things as the Republican scandals start to gain the attention of mainstream journalists. Mr. Dowd and Mr. Rove and Mr. Gonzales and Mr. Cheney (and their lackeys) and the political strategies they and their Party employ have damaged this country more than any of them will ever actually admit. It’s going to take investigations, subpoenas, trials, and convictions.

But, yeah… thanks Dowd for finally admitting the truth… too little, too late.

In speaking out, Mr. Dowd became the first member of Mr. Bush’s inner circle to break so publicly with him.

He said his decision to step forward had not come easily. But, he said, his disappointment in Mr. Bush’s presidency is so great that he feels a sense of duty to go public given his role in helping Mr. Bush gain and keep power.

Mr. Dowd, a crucial part of a team that cast as a flip-flopper who could not be trusted with national security during wartime, said he had even written but never submitted an op-ed article titled “Kerry Was Right,” arguing that Mr. Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat and 2004 presidential candidate, was correct in calling last year for a withdrawal from Iraq.
