Neo-imperialist authoritarian cultist gets his comeuppance

We see before us the tale of yet another arrogant neocon suit doing just what they always do…

“Corruption not only undermines the ability of governments to function properly, it also stifles the growth of the private sector. We hear it from investors, domestic and foreign, investors who worry that where corruption is rampant, contracts are unenforceable, competition is skewed, and the costs of doing business becomes stifling. When investors see that, they take their money somewhere else.” – Paul Wolfowitz, World Bank President, Jakarta, Indonesia, April 11, 2006

[Tip of the Hat (for the quote) : Firkirte]

Paul Wolfowitz, president of the World Bank, former #2 at the Pentagon, PNAC signatory, and a leading proponent of the Iraq War, personally directed his head of human resources to offer Shaha Riza, an official with whom he was romantically involved, a large pay rise and a promotion as part of an external secondment package to the US State Department. According to an internal memo, circulated within the bank, it sets out the salary that Ms Riza is to be paid, the arrangements for her promotion and the basis on which her subsequent annual pay increases are to be calculated, and all of it is contrary to official bank policy. More here.

Since the leak of the memo, World Bank management has retained a law firm to identify whistleblowers, and presumably create a “chilling effect” among Bank employees. More here.
