The Gang That Couldn’t Think Straight
clipmarks on May 9th, 2007 filed in PoliticsFirst they send our troops into harm’s way unnecessarily. Then they don’t bother to give them enough armor to protect themselves. Then they laugh at the Geneva conventions that were designed to protect us as well as everybody else.
Then they don’t bother to make sure that our wounded have adequate medical care. Then they say “you’re not supporting our troops” to anyone who wants to get our men and women out of the line of fire.

What wasn’t mentioned:
- the series of lies that were told to justify the invasion
- the intelligence that was “fixed” around the policy
- the outing of a CIA agent whose specialty was nuclear nonproliferation, and the destruction of her network of contacts overseas, for purely political reasons
- the belittling of our long-time allies, and then demanding their cooperation and money
- the relatively poor military pay and benefits, as compared to that of private security contractors (who number almost as many as the troops in Iraq)
- the de facto back-door draft of the National Guard
- the multiple rotations into combat tours of duty
- the extended length of combat tours of duty
- the failure to provide adequate mental health care for PTSD veterans
- the fact that 33% of U.S. homeless adults are military veterans
- the tainted food our troops overseas were served
- leaving the homeland less secure because most of the equipment needed in case of a disaster was taken overseas
- the failure to support the mission to capture Osama bin Laden
- the spying on ordinary Americans (some, I’m sure, are families of those troops)
- the demonization of the Democratic families of the troops
- the funding of groups who are actually connected to terrorism, including the CIA
- the failure to hold Saudi Arabia responsible for its 9/11 hijackers and funding of terrorist groups
- the failure to pay electric bills at our military bases at home
- the failure to provide for oversight and accountability; $8.8 billion is missing
- the failure to secure 400 tons of explosives in Iraq, which are now being used against our troops
“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.” (08/05/04)
